The best electric dirt bikes for kids

Dirt bikes are cool. They always have been. When a kid sees a professional dirt biker in their alien suits gliding through the air, it can awaken a call to chaos inside them. Luckily, eco-friendly tech has advanced so much that now there are plenty of ways to introduce them to the sport in an environmentally friendly way, and without taking a major chunk out of your bank account.

Segway Dirt eBike X160

The X160 is the priciest product on our list, but it offers some great features with the tag. Beyond weighing 106 pounds and having a 31 mph top speed, this dirt eBike sports a forged aluminum alloy that can stand up against some of the roughest riding conditions. This strong material also keeps the bike light and easily maneuverable. Comfort is a top priority for Segway, too. The handlebars are covered in textured silicone rubber, and the bikes utilize top-notch shock absorption for a smoother ride. The battery takes only 4 hours to charge and has a range of 44 miles, so it blows the competition out of the water. Speaking of which, it’s waterproof.

Razor MX350 Dirt Electric Motocross Bike

Most people will recognize Razor from its line of scooters. Their products can be found in almost every Walmart or Target across the nation. But you might be surprised to find out that they have made a name for themselves in electric bikes—becoming one of the top producers. The MX350 is a battery-powered mini motocross bike that is designed for off-road riding. With a 350-watt power chain motor, the MX350 has a single speed, operated by a twist grip throttle that allows for powerful, yet surprisingly quiet, performance.

It comes with several nice features, like dual suspension and large tires to allow for a comfortable ride, plus adjustable handlebars. It can get 30 minutes of ride time on a full charge and goes up to 14 miles-per-hour and can carry up to 140 lbs. The construction is sturdy with a stainless-steel frame for added durability. All these together make for an exciting and safe way to introduce any kid to dirt biking.

Burromax TT250 Electric Dirt Bike

The Burromax uses a welded steel tube frame with aluminum alloy wheels. It features adjustable riser handlebars, a heavy-duty folding footrest, and full suspension. These tires are 12.5 inches in diameter, like most of the models in this list, and use twist-grip acceleration to control speed. It can be adjusted to reach speeds of 14 mph or throttled down to 7 mph. One major advantage is the 24V SLA deep cycle battery can last an entire day on the power it’s able to generate. It can accommodate riders up to 250 lbs and comes with training wheels. The TT250 is a really great all-around electric dirt bike for kids of any age.

Razor MX650 Rocket Electric Motocross Bike

The MX650 is a boosted version of the other razors on the list, with a 650-watt battery that can reach speeds up to 17 mph and last one hour on a single charge. On top of that, the speed can be tailored, allowing your kid to learn some engineering skills. This bike is built for older riders, but any responsible child over ten should be able to handle the bike. The riser handlebars are sturdy and offer quality comfort and grip, which is important as the bike goes about twice as fast as a standard electric dirt bike, so it will require a little extra control. Like the other bikes, it’s also very quiet. This bike is designed with supercross in mind and benefits from a sturdy steel frame. It even has even larger tires at 16-inches and supports up to 220 lbs.

Razor SX500 McGrath Electric Motocross Bike

Named after Jeremy McGrath, this is one of Razor’s most revered products. The bike comes with a steel frame and can reach speeds of up to 15 mph and gets more than 40 minutes of non-stop riding. The tires are designed to give optimal power transfer and smooth riding with disc braking. It uses a plastic frame that can hold up in rain or shine and includes a double-crown fork for safety. The McGrath includes a battery that takes about 12 hours to charge from dead to full. At 98 lbs, the SX500 is a lot heavier than the MX400, but still light enough for a kid to use and can accommodate up to 175 lbs. The SX500 is recommended for a slightly older group at 14 years and older, but riders as young as eight should do all right.

These are some of the best bikes on the market to get you started, but remember that safety comes first and foremost. Make sure your children know how the bike operates before hopping on and riding off. Try watching some YouTube tutorials with tips and tricks and, before you buy anything else, get them a helmet (plus any other guards and pads they might want.) With this, you can get your kid going on some exciting rides outside.
